Illinois Motorcyclists Can Get a Motorcycle Sport Team License Plate

On August 9, 2012, Governor of Illinois, Pat Quinn, signed into law the availability of a motorcycle sport team license plate. The State of Illinois has over 350,000 motorcyclists that can now upgrade their current plates to show support to their favorite Chicago Sports Team.

Jesse White, Illinois Secretary of State, and one-time minor league Cubs baseball player, has released both Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox motorcycle plates and will be rolling out the Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls and Chicago Blackhawks motorcycle plates on August 24, 2012.

Income generated from the sale of a motorcycle sport team license plate will be used to support schools in Illinois.  There are currently 18,000 car owners in Illinois that already have sport team license plates.  In less than two years, sports team car license plates have raised over $800,000 for the Illinois school system; the addition of sports team motorcycle plates is expected to have another strong impact on funding for Illinois schools.

A current random motorcycle license plate has a cost of $39.00 for a year, to upgrade to a sports team license plate; the random number price will start at $66.00 annually.  Vanity and personalized plates will also be available; Illinois motorcyclists can check cyberdriveillinois.com to see if the plate they want is available and the current fee.
