The New Kawasaki 2013 ZX-10R

Kawasaki Motor Corp has announced some changes to it’s popular ZX-10R for the 2013 model year.  The 2012 model year changed little from the 2011 version except for some color schemes, but Kawasaki has offered some upgrades that are sure to please consumers and keep their competition in check with the Yamaha YZ-R1, the Suzuki GSX-R1000 and the Honda CBR1000RR.

New for 2013 is an electronic steering damper developed by Kawasaki and Öhlins featuring advanced technology.  Located under the gas tank cover is an ECU that controls the damper, allowing the damper to react to different rates of acceleration and deceleration in combination with rear wheel speed for optimal damping force through various riding scenarios.  Stable damping performance and superior kickback absorption is achieved with the use of Öhlins patented twin-tube design. Compared to last year’s damper, this anodized damper ads less weight as it is mounted horizontally at the front of the fuel tank and requires very few additional components.

The ZX-10R for 2013 will still have the Sport-Kawasaki Traction Control (S-KTRC) and the optional Advanced Kawasaki Intelligent Anti-Lock Braking System (KIBS) that was introduced on the 2011 model. The S-KTRC comes in three different modes based on rider skill level and conditions, it offers exceptional traction based on data gathered from throttle position, wheel speed, engine rpm, wheel slippage and acceleration, and a speed sensor fitted to each wheel. Quick response to changing conditions is a result of the S-KTRC confirming conditions 200 times per second while governing ignition. The optional KIBS is a lightweight ABS unit that is located close to the bike’s center of mass, minimizing the affect of added weight.  The anti-lock brake system uses the speed control sensors already installed for the S-KTRC.

New color schemes are also part of the 2013 changes.  Pearl Flat White/Metallic Spark Black make the curved shaped, aerodynamic bodywork look even more appealing. The other color option available is the Lime Green/Metallic Spark Black.  Both color schemes are available at an MSRP of $14,299 for the Non-ABS model and $15,299 for the ABS model.
