Tank Sports, Inc., a bankrupt company once located in California, sold helmets that failed 3 out of 4 times in safety tests performed by The National highway Traffic Safety Administration.
It is reported that over 14,000 helmets were sold that carry the 5X5 brand name with model number SA-08 and failed to meet federal head protection requirements. These helmets should be discarded and not worn while riding.
The government requested a recall on these helmets, but Tank Sports, Inc. failed to comply with the request before filing for bankruptcy. Helmets are required to meet penetration protection requirements; in this case, both the outer shell and the inner lining were penetrated in three of out four helmets tested.
Although no deaths or injuries have been reported involving these helmets, consumers should not wear these helmets.
