Motorcycle Training Wheel Kits Recalled

If you purchased a Moose Racing Brand motorcycle training wheel kit for you child’s dirtbike from July of 2102 through June of 2013, it may be one of the 4000 sets that were recently recalled by Cambridge Metal & Plastics. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Moose Racing brand motorcycle training wheel kits have bolts that can come loose and cause a rider to lose control.

The recall includes both the training wheels for youth motorcycles and the replacement wheel kit. The bolts and nuts securing the wheel can loosen, posing a potential crash hazard to the youngest of riders just learning the sport.

The training wheel kits were sold at numerous powersports dealerships nationwide as well as through on-line retailers.  The training wheels have a black, one-piece, full-length metal axle (the Moose Racing logo appears on the left and right side of the axle) with a plate that attaches to the underside of the motorcycle frame beneath the engine and two inflatable rubber wheels. The replacement wheel kit is a set of two tires mounted on the wheel assembly.

The recalled motorcycle training wheel kits fit the following youth motorcycle models:  Honda XR/CRF 50, Kawasaki KDX 50, Suzuki JR 50, KTM 50, Suzuki DRZ 70, and the Yamaha PW50 and TTR50.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled training wheels and contact Cambridge Metal and Plastics to have them repaired free of charge.  Cambridge Metal and Plastics can be reached at (800) 457-0580 or online at www.cmp-wwm.com and click on the Motorcycle Training Wheel Recall link for more information.

Although no injuries have been reported, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety commission is still interested in receiving incident or injury reports that are either directly or indirectly related to the Moose Brand motorcycle training wheels.  Should you know of one of the incidents, please submit your report to SaferProducts.gov.
