Sturgis Motorcycle Rally 2012

Every year one of the biggest motorcycle rallies is held in Sturgis, South Dakota.  This year the event will be held from August 6th through August 12th and they will be celebrating the 72nd anniversary of the rally.

Our course, you can check out the sturgismotorcyclerally.com website and get all the details about lodging, vendors, attractions, and even the weather forecast. But South Dakota has launched a new website this year, providing riders with more information about riding through the beautiful state of South Dakota and other information you may not find on the Sturgis Rally website.

Southdakotarides.com has designed a website that is aimed at the safety of those who will be attending the rally.  Right on the home page is a sample of a virtual ride, giving prospective visitors a chance to see the route before attempting to drive the route.  It may seem like a great idea to ride through the Black Hills, but it is also challenging, the virtual ride gives riders a chance to see where they are going and perhaps give inexperienced riders an opportunity to look at alternative routes more suited to their capabilities.

Another important part of the website is the attention drawn to motorcycle safety.  This includes a list of current motorcycle laws in the state of South Dakota (which by the way, states that anyone under 18 must wear a helmet), and a section on rider education classes.

It’s nice to see a state support a motorcycle rally and welcoming the visitors with information that can make the event more enjoyable and safer for everyone, both the residents and the visitors. The impression of motorcycle “gangs” has come a long way in the past 50 years.  Ever been to Sturgis?  We’d love to see your pictures or hear about your trip.
