2011 Kawasaki ZX10R Recall

A New Kawasaki Motorcycle Recall has been issued.  This Kawasaki motorcycle recall was announced on August 8, 2012 and involves 2011 and 2012 Ninja ZX™ -10R models.  It appears that not all 2011 and 2012 ZX-10R’s are included in the recall, and Kawasaki will be notifying owners if their motorcycle is involved in the recall by sending them a recall letter.  If you purchased a 2011 or 2012 Ninja ZX™ -10R used or from a private party, and have not contacted Kawasaki by updating owner information, you can contact a dealer with your seventeen digit VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). The dealership will be able to assist you in getting the ownership changed on your motorcycle within the Kawasaki database, and also advise you if your vehicle falls under the list of recalled vehicles.

Components Affected By This Kawasaki Motorcycle Recall

Motorcycles affected by this recall have a suspect machined area on the crankcase that may leak oil.  The area is at the starter mounting point and the oil may pool on the top of the crankcase.  If the vehicle is driven with this oil pool, or continues to be driven without being repaired correctly by a certified Kawasaki technician, the oil could spill over onto the rear tire. As any motorcyclist knows, oil and tires don’t work well together and the result could be a potential crash, which could result in injury or death.

At no cost to the consumer, any Authorized Kawasaki Dealer can do the repair.  It is recommended that you contact your local dealer as soon as possible to set up an appointment for the repair. If you are thinking of purchasing a 2011 and 2012 Ninja ZX™ -10R, the dealership will have the problem fixed prior to your purchase.  Dealerships are required to perform all recalls on new vehicles prior to selling them to a consumer.
