Ducati Brake Issue Recall

motorcycles are the newest to show up on the list of recalls this year.

A rear brake issue that requires the replacement of faulty rear brake pads has affected approximately 280 units.  The brake pads were manufactured by Federale-Mogul and it was determined that an adhesive issue prevents the pads from adhering properly to the backing plate.  The friction material could detach from the backing plate, should this occur it would result in a decrease in braking power, including increasing the time it can take to stop, which could result in a crash.

The affected models included in the recall are:

  • 848 EVO
  • Hypermotard 796
  • Monster 1100 EVO
  • Monster 796
  • Multistrada 1200 ABS
  • Streetfighter 848

Also, the Monster 1100 EVO had a recall recently involving an issue with the rear wheel; the spokes on the rim could possibly develop cracks over time.

If you own one of the affected vehicles, Ducati will contact you, and your motorcycle will need to be inspected by an authorized Ducati dealer.  If your motorcycle appears to have the defective adhesive on the brakes pads, they will be replaced, free of charge.

If you are concerned, contact Ducati, or an authorized Ducati dealer and if you provide them with your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), they can advise you if your vehicle needs to be inspected.
